Caught on CCTV: Fare dodger on Nottingham tram hits inspector and pushes another worker

CCTV footage captures the incident which  happened in front of other passengers

A jobless man who slapped an inspector on a tram full of passengers, which was caught on CCTV, has been jailed at Nottingham Crown Court.

The fare dodger, Mr Orion Hunter, aged 35, had not long been freed from prison and when detained five days later, was found in possession of a knife.

Hunter was asked on the tram to show his ticket by the inspector but did not provide one. He had an invalid ticket which the inspector confiscated and this made Hunter angry, which is when he slapped the inspector, causing him to suffer from injuries as a result of his actions.

The CCTV footage shown in court shows the incident happening in front of a tram full of passengers.

When the tram stopped, Hunter got off and pushed another tram worker that was stood on the platform, luckily he was unharmed.

Hunter apparently said to the second tram worker: “I am sorry I hit your mate.”

The incident happened when the tram was at Goldsmith Street on Thursday, December 29 last year.

Hunter pleaded guilty to two counts of assault – for beating and for having a knife in a public place. He was given a 22-week prison sentence and ordered to pay £500 costs, as the inspector suffered damage to his teeth during the assault.

Hunter was not in possession of the knife whilst on the tram but was found on him when he was arrested and searched on February 3, on Highbury Road.

CCTV cameras installed at Nottingham football club to tackle dog mess problem

The club has now installed 35 CCTV cameras around the pitch

A Nottingham football club has had to install CCTV cameras around the pitch to try and tackle the big problem of dog mess, which is left by ‘irresponsible’ dog owners.

The club has now installed 35 CCTV cameras around the pitch in a bid to crackdown on pet mess.

According to members of staff, they have to spend around two hours every day clearing up dog mess from the pitches, filling up about half a bucket per day.

The pitches are used each weekend, with 290 children attending, so the club chairman, Chris Munroe, said action needed to be taken.

The dog mess problem at the Mill Street Playing Field, in Greenwich Avenue, Basford, is getting much worse and the ground is used each day, with children of five-years-old attending at the weekends.

The club has now had 35 CCTV cameras installed around the ground in the hope of catching the irresponsible dog owners. The CCTV footage can be sent to the dog wardens, who can hand out £50 fixed penalty notices to any culprits caught out by the CCTV cameras.

Extra bins will also be installed around the ground to encourage dog owners to dispose of their dogs’ mess correctly.

“It’s a lovely little ground. It’s a nice environment for dog walkers because the river is next to it. The majority do clean up their dogs’ mess, I’m sure but there is a minority who are spoiling it for everyone,” said Mr Munroe.

Nottinghamshire Police have issued a warning to businesses to be on the alert, after receiving reports that a man has been posing as a police officer, entering businesses during the day and asking to look at the roof area of the building. CCTV images have been released of two men the police would like to speak to.

Businesses in Nottingham city centre have been targeted by the thieves, who check the premises out whilst posing as officers, then return at night to steal cash.

The police are informing businesses that this is not a genuine police operation. Any managers or shop owners who receive a visit from someone posing as a police officer and asking to look around the building should say ‘no’ and call the police immediately on 101.

The Nottingham Business Improvement District (BID), issued the warning to all businesses on behalf of the police.

“With regards to this matter, we were approached by the police to pass on information about a person who was posing as a police officer to warn them, which we have done,” said Mr Neil Fincham, a director of the BID.

CCTV images have been released by the police of two men they would like to trace and speak to, after a business in the city centre was burgled before Christmas. The thieves got in through the roof, cut the safe with an angle grinder and stole cash and stamps.

70-year-old woman threatened with a gun during armed robbery in Stapleford – CCTV being checked

CCTV footage belonging to residential and business owners is to be looked at, after an incident in which a 70-year-old woman was threatened with a handgun during an armed robbery in Stapleford, Nottingham.

During the armed robbery, which took place on Sunday, January 23 at the Betfred bookmakers on Derby Road, in Stapleford, the cashier was threatened by the robber and suffered injuries to her hand. The incident happened at around 9.20pm.

 

The young robber pointed the handgun at staff and customers, then demanded cash. According to Nottinghamshire Police, the suspect ran away after stealing cash from the till.

The suspect has been described as young, aged 16 to 17 years old, white and around 5ft tall. He was wearing dark jogging bottoms, a black bomber jacket, gloves and a black/white covering over his face.

Business owners and staff in the area have been left shocked and upset following the armed robbery, with many saying that it’s not something that normally happens in Stapleford.

Councillor Richard MacRae for Broxtowe Borough, said: “It’s definitely out of character for Stapleford for an armed robbery using a handgun.”

Cllr MacRae also noted that there’s a lot of CCTV in Stapleford, which will now be checked, including CCTV footage belonging to residents and businesses in the area. Anything that looks remotely suspicious will be reported to the police.

Handbrake fail in Nottingham street caught on CCTV

CCTV cameras capture the moment a car with its handbrake left off ends up in a neighbour’s hedge

CCTV cameras installed at a house on a street in Nottingham, have captured the moment a car with its handbrake left off has took on a life of its own and run into one of the neighbour’s hedge.

The incident was captured via CCTV cameras on a residential street in Arnold, Nottingham and looked as though it all happened in slow-motion.

On Sunday afternoon, January 15, the car was parked up on Bagnall Avenue, however because the handbrake had been left off, the vehicle ended up rolling its way onto Orchard Grove.

It’s driverless journey was rather graceful and amazingly trouble free, missing two other vehicles without leaving a mark on either of them, eventually stopping thanks to a neighbour’s hedge.

The CCTV footage which captured the whole incident was via cameras installed on the front of a house on Orchard Grove.

Daniel Goslawski, aged 34, said that he never noticed anything at first until some of his friends turned up and said a car had parked in front of his house.

The travelling car’s handbrake had been left off and rolled its way in between Mr Goslawski’s Ford Focus estate and his Ford Mondeo. Luckily the Focus estate wasn’t parked in its usual spot, otherwise the visiting car would have struck it.

It turned out the travelling car belonged to someone visiting a property on Bagnall Street.

Mr Goslawski made contact with the owners of the car but as only a bit of damage to his fence was caused, no claim had to be made.

“It was lucky for me – but also lucky for him!” added Mr Goslawski.

CCTV cameras capture the man swinging punches at people outside the pub

A man has been captured on CCTV throwing punches outside a pub in Nottingham after being refused entry.

The sous chef has admitted in court that when he goes out drinking he goes over the top and doesn’t know when to stop.

Joshua Hegarty, aged 24 from St Alban’s Road, Arnold, in Nottingham claimed to have changed his life around.

The incident happened outside the Blue Bell Inn on December 15, on Forman Street, Nottingham. Police arrived at the scene after receiving reports that Hegarty had been acting aggressively outside the pub shortly after midnight. He refused to leave and threatened to “twist them up”.

Nottingham Magistrates Court was told how Hegarty had been caught on CCTV swinging punches around outside the pub at anybody passing by, luckily none of them managed to engage. He was seen acting in an aggressive manner with the staff on the door.

 

The police arrested Hegarty, who struggled and attempted to headbutt a police officer and started kicking out.

Whilst being interviewed later on, Hegarty said he couldn’t remember anything because he was too drunk and didn’t know he had swung punches at people and acted aggressively.

He pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour and was put on probation for 18 months. Hegarty was also made to carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work and has to pay £85 prosecution costs and the same in surcharge fees.

According to a probation report, Hegarty accepted responsibility for the offence and had “a change of lifestyle”, after other appearances in court.

Hegarty was told by the presiding magistrate, Keith Hollingsworth: “We are showing a bit of faith in you. We want a bit of faith back.”

CCTV images released following small handgun threat robbery in Radcliffe-on-Trent

Nottinghamshire Police have released CCTV images after a robbery at a Tesco Express store in Nottingham, in which a member of staff was threatened with a ‘small handgun’.

The robbery occurred at the Tesco Express shop on Main Road in Radcliffe-on-Trent, Nottingham, on Sunday, December 18 shortly after 10pm.

 

The suspect threatened a member of staff with what was believed to be a weapon, before making a run for it with cash stolen from the till.

Police have described the suspect as a tall and slim white male with an English accent, aged 16 to 25. The man was wearing black clothing and wore a balaclava.

Police release CCTV images following fuel theft in Langley Mill

CCTV images have been released by the police following the theft of fuel at a petrol station in Langley Mill, Nottingham.

The incident happened on Sunday, December 18 around 11.15am at the Nether Green service Station, on Derby Road.

A light blue Ford Fiesta drove onto the forecourt, a man got out of the car and filled up with fuel. He also got a petrol can from the boot and filled that up too.

He then jumped into his car and drove away without paying. Another man is believed to have been in the passenger seat at the tinme of the robbery.

Hotel manager caught on CCTV spying on naked female guest from Nottingham

The manager was sacked after the incident was captured on CCTV

A female hotel guest from Nottingham was left horrified after discovering the manager of the hotel leering at her through the glass window to her room as she was getting changed – he was however caught in the act by CCTV cameras and sacked.

Twenty-seven year-old married mother of two, Clare Day, who works as a sales representative, was naked as she walked from room to room in her suite. She then saw a man’s face “pressed against the glass”, screamed and covered herself up.

She recognised the man as being the manager of Walworth Castle, Darlington as he had been the one to check her in when she arrived.

 

Mrs Day called her husband, then her boss but when neither of them answered she called the reception desk. Mrs Day claims they told her to lock her door and report what happened in the morning.

“I saw his face through the reflection of the bathroom mirror, it was like something out of a horror film,” said Mrs Day.

She added: “I felt totally violated and sick to my stomach. It felt like he targeted me knowing I was alone.”

In the morning, Mrs Day did report the incident to a staff member who said they would look at CCTV footage.

The whole incident was luckily caught on CCTV and the manager was sacked from his position at the hotel. He was arrested on suspicion of voyeurism but was later relased with just a caution.

Mrs Day says the hotel offered her compensation by way of a free night’s stay.

For work reasons, Mrs Day stays regularly at Best Western hotels and has done so for the past two years. However, it was the first time Clare had stayed at this particular hotel, which was on October 26.

The hotel handed the CCTV footage over to Durham police. The manager, believed to be in his thirties, was arrested on suspicion of voyeurism but because it was a first-time offence, he was released with a caution.

1. CCTV images released of man suspected of Eastwood robbery

CCTV images have been released by the police of a man they would like to trace in connection to a robbery in Eastwood, Nottingham.

The male suspect walked into Johnsons Newsagents, on Nottingham Road, Eastwood, threatened a member of staff with a knife and made the employee put cash into a bag. He then left the shop with the money.

The incident happened on Sunday, November 27 at around 6.25am. The suspect was described as wearing a creamy coloured Puffa jacket with a fur edged hood and high visibility orange trousers.

2. CCTV footage released of a man wanted over bottle attack in Nottingham

Police have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with a vicious bottle attack in Nottingham, in which two men were injured.

Both victims, who are aged 19 and 21, suffered injuries to their face after the attack, which saw the pair being targeted by a group of men. The incident happened on Milton Street, in Nottingham on Thursday, September 29 at around 2pm.

 

The two male victims were attacked with a bottle during the attack and had to receive hospital treatment for their injuries.

Two CCTV images have now been released by the police of a man they would like to trace in connection with the brutal attack.

The suspect is described as Eastern European, of small build and aged in his early 20s. He was wearing a dark blue cap, grey jogging bottoms and a dark blue zip-up top that had white sleeves and emblems on both chest areas.
